        Rip's Impressions

None who endeavor to become well versed in the modern classics can escape Joyce; he influenced the century of writers who followed him. He did not write more than a few short stories and novels, so it is easily possible to read all he wrote; not necessarily to finish or understand them. That takes some study. Save him for the advanced student of reading.

        literary tidbits

Too many to note here. He had quite a strong magnetic ego which pulled all he knew into his orbit Recognizing his genius, they would bend over backwards to do all they could for him. As an Irishman he was also champion of all the oppressed. His most potent revenge upon the English was to turn their language upside down. His own cross to bare was the pain of going blind slowly over the course of his entire adult life.
