        Rip's impressions

Good ol' Studs––an enjoyable, though an ultimately sad, character to follow. The prose is often long, dragging ,and cliché (definite candidate for skipping a lot) but do finish to learn the final outcome of lazy Stud's life. A favorite classic in Chicago.

        first line

Studs Lonigan, on the verge of fifteen, and wearing his first suit of long trousers, stood in the bathroom with a Sweet Caporal pasted in his mug.
